Welcome to Blue Knights Delaware Chapter I!
Delaware Chapter I came about in 1983 when officers, mostly from the
Wilmington Department of Police, got together for the purpose of starting a Blue Knight Chapter
within our state. The word quickly spread throughout the various law enforcement agencies in the
area and, within a very short time, we submitted our package to the International Office in Maine
requesting membership.
We were subsequently chartered on August 22, 1983, with 18 regular members
representing 3 police departments. Our current membership represents over 50 officers from the
Wilmington Department of Police, New Castle County Police, Department of Corrections, Delaware State
Police, Newark Police Department, Delaware River and Bay Authority Police Department,
Delaware State Fire Police, Delaware State Capital Police, the State of Delaware Attorney Generals
Office, Philadelphia Police Department, Lewes Police Department, Darby Township Police, New Jersey State
Department of Corrections, Drug Enforcement Administration, Dover Delaware Police Department, Elsmere Police,
Ocean City New Jersey Police Department, Montgomery County Maryland Police Department, Pennsylvania State
Police Department and the State of Delaware Justice of the Peace Constables.
Our meetings are always held on the first Tuesday of the month. We alternate the monthly meeting locations
between all 3 counties in Delaware, going from New Castle County to Kent County and then to Sussex County
to accommodate where our members reside. All meetings start at 7:30 PM. As such, and to insure that members
have the ability to eat dinner, the location is always somewhere that we arrange food and refreshments can be
obtained.
Just like all other Blue Knight Chapters, Delaware Chapter I promotes the sport of motorcycling as well as all
safety aspects involved with it. In addition, we support local charities with their functions throughout the year.
For the past 24 years, we have hosted our annual Toys for Tots Motorcycle Ride on the 2nd Sunday of November with
all proceeds going to the Salvation Army's Emergency Housing Center. Due to the fact that our Toy Run
continues to grow each year, we had to move the meeting location from the Delaware Association of Police Hall
in Wilmington to the Mill Creek Fire Hall which is located about 4 miles outside of Wilmington on RT 2.
Our annual toy run is our primary fund raiser each year.
If you are interested in becoming a Blue Knight, please check the criteria for membership and then please contact
one of our Board Members via email (check Contacts) and we will gladly get in touch with you.
